I started in business many years ago. In 1991 actually.

I operated my business for almost 30-years.

During that period of time, I’ve come across some books and business products that have helped me on my entrepreneurial journey.

I share below some of my favorite books, blogs, and business tools that I used to help me with my finances, business, investing, and wealth creation.

Books:

These books have all had a huge impact on me and my business success.

The Millionaire Next Door: This is my all-time favorite book. It’s my small business bible! This is the book I used to help me understand the millionaire mindset, which is after all, what this website is all about … It’s our tag line: “To Become a Millionaire, You Have to Think Like a Millionaire.” The Millionaire Next Door focuses primarily around understanding the millionaire mindset. Understand the mindset, and you’re on your way to becoming a millionaire.

Unlimited Power by Anthony Robbins: I read this book almost 30-years ago. It’s the book that helped me understand that I control my destiny, not the other way around. It helped me understand that my thoughts and actions control my destination. If I vision something, plan, speak about it and work towards a goal, then my goal will come true. Once I finished this book I sold all of my personal belongings, moved to Los Angeles, and started all over. The book is powerful. It can change lives.

Getting to Yes. Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In: Yes, this book is about negotiating, but, life’s all about negotiating. You negotiate for your first car, home, salary, apartment building, and especially your business. Negotiating is probably one of the more important skill sets that an individual can have, yet, it’s probably one of the most under-appreciated. Funny how that works. Most people I speak with about negotiating say, almost right away … “I’m not a very good negotiator.” Question is then, how can you expect to succeed in business, or in your career, if you’re not able to negotiate.

This book taught me the term: BATNA. Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement. Whenever you head into a negotiation, you MUST understand your BATNA. I’m not going to explain what that is in this short book description. You’ll need to read the book to understand. But, spend some time on this important skill. It will serve you well.

The Sales Acceleration Formula by Mark Roberge. This book is required reading if you’re running a business. Mark was one of the first employees at Hubspot and was instrumental in building the business’s sales and marketing departments. He helped propel the company from a small, fledgling business, to one of the world’s largest marketing automation companies in a few short years. In the book, Mark explains, step by step, how to build and measure both a sales and marketing department. I read this book three times and asked my direct reports to read it as well.
